Early Reading & Phonics
At Lindhead School, we believe that all our children can become fluent readers and writers. Early reading and the teaching of phonics is a priority in our school: Carefully chosen resources have previously led to the percentage of children reaching the expected standard at the end of KS1 being over 93%, with attainment at the end of Year 1 constantly being significantly above national averages.
We start teaching phonics in Reception and follow the Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised progression, which ensures children build on their growing knowledge of the alphabetic code, mastering phonics to read and spell as they move through school. Please see below for further information.
We aim to communicate regularly with parents as to theor children's progress.
Please see below for the Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised progression, which shows the progression of 'GPC's" (grapheme - phoneme correspondence) and 'tricky words' at Lindhead.
