Year 3

“Exploring Wider Worlds”

Year 3 marks the start of Key Stage 2, where children begin to broaden their horizons through more independent study and deeper enquiry. They read and write across a wide range of genres – from legends and mysteries to biographies and debates – while strengthening grammar, spelling and handwriting fluency. Maths develops secure number skills alongside fractions, shape, time and data, giving children the confidence to reason and solve problems. In science, pupils investigate rocks, plants, light, forces and the human body, carrying out practical experiments and making links to real-world discoveries. History topics range from the Stone Age and Romans to Ancient Egypt, while geography explores volcanoes, Antarctica and settlements. Art, DT, music and French bring creativity and culture to the curriculum, and PE promotes teamwork, fitness and resilience across a range of sports and activities. It’s a year of exploration, curiosity and connection — preparing children for the rich learning of Key Stage 2.
